吴如山，美国加州大学Santa Cruz分校教授。在1978年中国改革开放后复派的第一批赴美留学生里，吴如山是唯一经教育部批准、结束了一年半访问学习后继续留美攻读博士、博士后的学者。于1985年获得美国麻省理工学院博士学位。1986-1988年在中国科学院地质与地球物理研究所工作，1989年至今，在加州大学Santa Cruz分校任教。发表论文200多篇，专著4部。研究领域包括地震正演和偏移，小波变换及其在地震中的应用,地震散射和非均匀介质等。他领导的MILAB & WTOPI(Modelling & Imaging Laboratory at UCSC & Wavelet Transform On Propagation and Imaging Consortium）研究小组在地震偏移领域取得令人瞩目的研究成果，其倡导的Beamlet migration受到业界的一直关注。

Prof. Ru-Shan Wu received his Ph.D. in geophysics in 1984 from MIT. Now he is a geophysicist and the director of the Modeling and Imaging Laboratory, at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, University of California, Santa Cruz. His current research interests include seismic wave propagation, scattering in heterogeneous media, fast methods for elastic wave modeling, scattering and attenuation, diffraction and scattering tomography, and imaging & inversion of wave field, especially in the compressed domain. He is the Corresponding Member fo the Europeanm Academy of Sciences. He served as the Chairman of the IASPEI Sub-commission on Heterogeneity and scattering from 1997-2005, and a member of Standing Committee on Seismology and Geodynamics, Board on Earth Sciences and Resources, National Research Council from 2004-2007.
